Strength Gauge in 30 seconds
How far has price travelled from its own average, and is that normal for this stock? The gauge answers both, so a reading means the same thing on SPY as on a volatile small cap.
The bars: distance from average
Each bar covers four trading days. Its height is how far the close sits from the 10-month average, measured in standard deviations (sigma). Above zero, price is above its average; below zero, under it.
The headline: percentile
The big number ranks today's reading against this symbol's last five years. For example, 57th pct means it is higher than 57% of past readings. That is why the label, from DEEPLY BELOW to TOP OF RANGE, is fair across different stocks.
The shaded zones
The coloured bands are the same percentiles drawn on the chart: the outer band is the most extreme 5% of this symbol's history, the inner band the next 15%. A bar reaching a band is rare for this symbol.
The white line and the meter
The white line is a 13-bar average of the score, so you can see whether stretch is building or fading. The meter under the chart shows today's price between minus 2 and plus 2 sigma, with the matching prices.
What every number on this page means
- Percentile
- Where the current score ranks in the symbol's own five-year history.
- Label
- TOP OF RANGE (95th+), NEAR TOP (80th+), ABOVE USUAL (60th+), USUAL (40th to 60th), BELOW USUAL, WELL BELOW, DEEPLY BELOW (under 5th).
- Sigma from its average
- How many standard deviations today's close is from the 10-month average.
- 1 sd band
- The price range within one standard deviation of the average.
- 12-month trend
- The price change over the last twelve months.
- Outlook line
- What the next 20 sessions have done historically from similar readings, and whether that differs from normal by more than chance.
Good to know. Being stretched is not a reason on its own for price to turn: strong trends can stay near the top of their range for months. This tool describes where price sits, not where it is going, and it is not advice to buy or sell.
Educational tool. Tradetus indicators describe market data using fixed rules. They are not investment advice or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything, they are the same for everyone, and historical or hypothetical results do not predict future results.
